about us

"We're a family; we waste food."  This is my son's rebellious offer of discord when I offer up the rallying cry, "we're a family; we don't waste food."  The battle begins over his new tradition of casting off the crusts of his sandwiches at lunchtime.  The boy's zeal for being contrary has come up against my own zeal for taking opportunities to explain myself.

"The reason that we can afford to buy cool drums and ukuleles is that we work really hard to spend as little as possible on food, and we can't spend as little as possible if we waste it."  The boy appreciates the sound logic and the comforting thought of his instruments, of which he is fond with the most special kind of fondness.  And so, the crust is eaten and we finish lunch with little thought of the conversation that had just been.  The whole thing may have been forgotten if my son hadn't elected to make "we're a family; we waste food," one of his standard catch phrases ever since that day.

In all honesty, we do work really hard to spend as little as possible.  It isn't just to buy drums though.  We have seen too many friends get too caught up in the race for things and trade in their ideals for the ordeals that come along with the typical life of a consumer.  We spend as little as possible on food so that we can subsist on a single income, for instance.  We eat our crusts so that we can say that we are honestly trying to be faithful with the little things.

We have found in our efforts to make the best use of the money we have a parallel to making the best use of everything that we have.  And while it may be a bit unorthodox, we have found that we make the most of what we have by making ourselves available to take part in this traveling family ministry thing.  For a lot of folks, it is hard to understand.  For us, it is a lot like eating the crusts:  a way to be faithful with what we have been given.

What you get with us is a simple family.  Parents that want to share the love of God with their children and with the world around them.  A guy that plays songs that try to honor the sovereign God of the universe while being overwhelmed by the grace that He has evidenced both through the sacrifice of Jesus and the sanctification of so many wretched sinners.  Children that spend most of the day hanging out with their parents and sometimes even join Dad on stage.

We are not a touring business.  We are not seeking out celebrity.  We want to hang out and see how God is showing you his faithfulness.  We want to help out when and where we can.  We want to be there if you are hurting.  We want to demonstrate the love that has changed our lives to people that have experienced that love and to people that have not.  We do not want to fight.  We do not want to judge.  If you do not believe that Jesus died to be an atoning sacrifice for your sins, then we want to hang out and get to know you, and perhaps challenge your preconceived notions about what Christians are like.  We promise not to hit anyone with any books.  We try hard to be thankful for people and for God.  We try hard not to be more of a burden than a family of 4 has to be.  At least if you feed us, you know we will eat the crusts.
